About the General Assembly of Women Associations
The idea of establishing the health improvement association started in response to the appeal made by the Minister of Health in 1936 to contribute to facing tuberculosis, which was a serious pandemic in that time. Seven women responded to that call and took it upon themselves to care for the infected families, isolate the children from sources of infection, raise awareness about the disease and how to prevent it..

In order to obtain more resources, girls carry out pioneering activities to raise money, whether through organizing parties to sell dishes of lentils that they cook by themselves, or selling simple things from their own production to motivate people to donate and support the association’s activity. By time, the Enthusiasm increased, the number of volunteers increased with the participation of active and supportive Egyptian women and girls, the idea spread throughout Egypt, the branches were established successively in most of the Egyptian governorates working in all areas of health, women and children development. Thus, there was a need to establish an entity that includes under its umbrella all this branches under the name of women’s associations to improve health. The idea of establishing the General Assembly for Women’s Associations to Improve Health came in 1969 as an umbrella for all these branches, until the number of these branches reached 29 branches allover Egypt.
